JOB TITLE: Maintenance Technician REPORTS TO: Facilities Coordinator

WORK DAYS: 12 Months 240 Days SALARY SCHEDULE: Maintenance

LOCATION: District-Wide FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

JOB DESCRIPTION: To provide maintenance and repair services in the care and operation of school system facilities, structures and equipment in accordance with all Local, State and Federal codes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the safety and cleanliness of school buildings, grounds, and equipment
  • Regulate heating, air conditioning, and other environmental control systems
  • Perform basic maintenance and repair operations, replace bulbs and fluorescent tubes, remove graffiti from surfaces, paint inside and outside of facilities
  • Perform required preventive maintenance inspections
  • Cut grass, prune and remove trees and shrubs as required
  • Perform duties in a manner that promotes good public relations
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area for storage of equipment and records
  • Attend training sessions as scheduled by Facilities Coordinator
  • Maintain confidentiality of work-related issues, records, and school related information
  • Maintain proper and professional relationships with students and other employees
  • Be familiar with and follow Board of Education policies
  • Compliance with local, state and federal regulations
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of supplies, equipment, and/or merchandise
  • Work cooperatively with others as a team
  • Safely and effectively use hand-held tools and equipment such as, but not limited to, shovels, rakes, sledge hammers, lawn mowers, leaf blowers and weed trimmers
  • Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent; Valid Alabama Driver’s License; Effective interpersonal and communication skills; Successful completion of background check; 1-year maintenance experience preferred; 1-year experience in school setting preferred; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity are required to perform job responsibilities. Medium work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally as needed to move objects. Crawling, stooping, bending, climbing, working from ladders and roof tops in very hot and/or cold weather conditions.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with evaluation procedures and Board policy.
