Primary Purpose:

Perform advanced general maintenance and repair of district buildings, facilities, equipment, and related systems. Diagnose and complete assigned maintenance and repair work across multiple building systems and trades to support safe, functional, and well-maintained district facilities. Provide technical support for maintenance projects and assist other maintenance staff as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Education and Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Texas driver’s license

Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience in general building maintenance, construction, or a related skilled trade
  • Three (3) years of related experience across multiple building maintenance functions or skilled trades (preferred)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Working knowledge of building construction and general maintenance and repair procedures
  • Working knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, flooring, ceiling, door, window, and related facility maintenance practices
  • Working knowledge of safe operation and preventive maintenance of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
  • Ability to inspect facilities and equipment, identify maintenance and repair needs, and determine appropriate action within assigned scope
  • Ability to independently complete a variety of general building maintenance and repair tasks
  • Proficient skill in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and assigned maintenance equipment
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow verbal and written instructions, work orders, and basic technical information
  • Ability to communicate effectively with district staff and other maintenance personnel
  • Ability to prioritize assigned work and complete repairs within established timelines
  • Ability to identify unsafe conditions and follow established safety procedures

 

Key Responsibilities:

Building Maintenance and Repair

  • Perform general maintenance and repair of district buildings, facilities, equipment, and related systems
  • Repair and maintain woodwork, doors, windows, hardware, fixtures, furniture, and other building components
  • Perform assigned basic electrical maintenance and repair, including replacement of switches, fixtures, and related components within authorized scope
  • Perform assigned plumbing maintenance and repair, including fixtures, drainage systems, and related components within authorized scope
  • Repair or replace damaged glass, screens, and related building components
  • Install and repair ceiling and flooring materials
  • Install, assemble, move, and repair district furniture, equipment, playground equipment, and related items
  • Install wall-mounted equipment and fixtures, including boards, screens, dispensers, and similar items
  • Complete assigned maintenance and repair work in response to work orders and department priorities

Facility Inspection and Maintenance Support

  • Inspect building interiors, exteriors, equipment, playground areas, and grounds to identify maintenance and repair needs
  • Diagnose routine maintenance issues and complete repairs within assigned knowledge, skill, and authority
  • Identify major or specialized repair needs and report them to the appropriate supervisor
  • Assist with relocation of furniture, equipment, materials, and other district property
  • Assist with grounds and exterior maintenance when needed
  • Provide technical assistance and support to Maintenance Technician I and II staff on assigned projects as appropriate

Equipment and Transportation

  • Operate assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment safely and in accordance with established procedures
  • Operate light trucks to transport equipment, materials, furniture, and supplies throughout the district
  • Inspect tools and equipment for safe and efficient operation and perform preventive maintenance as assigned
  • Maintain assigned vehicles, equipment, tools, and work areas in safe operating condition

Safety and Work Practices

  • Follow established district and department safety procedures and techniques when performing assigned work
  • Correct unsafe conditions within assigned responsibility and immediately report conditions that cannot be corrected
  • Use appropriate tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment for assigned tasks
  • Follow established procedures when lifting, climbing, operating equipment, and working around electrical, mechanical, chemical, or other hazards

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and expectations as outlined in the employee handbook and administrative regulations
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • Participate in professional development, faculty/department meetings, and special events as assigned
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the district and campus

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools and Equipment Used: Hand and power tools; drills; saws; welding equipment; concrete mixer; mower; weed trimmer; blower; edger; grounds and maintenance equipment; light truck or van; other assigned maintenance equipment

Posture: Continual walking and standing; frequent climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching

Motion: Frequent reaching, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions associated with use of tools and maintenance equipment

Lifting: Frequent Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over)  

Environment: Work indoors and outdoors at district facilities; exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, odors, and conditions associated with building maintenance; exposure to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards and work around moving equipment or vehicles; frequent districtwide travel; may require prolonged or irregular hours

Mental Demands: Follow verbal and written instructions; diagnose and respond to maintenance needs; manage changing work priorities; work independently and cooperatively with others; maintain emotional control under stress
