Position Overview
The Intermediate Residential Interior Designer is to assist the Principal, Partner, and the Project Design Team on interiors projects from the Pre-Schematic Phase through Design Development, Purchasing, and Installation. This requires knowledge and experience, along with the ability to adapt to multiple design styles and delivery methods.
Essential Duties for This Position Include:
- Report to the Principal, Partner, and Senior Designers on multiple projects.
- Participate in initial client interviews, preliminary project research, and sourcing concept imagery.
- Manage, support, and assist on design tasks including programming, space planning, developing concepts, design development, furniture design, custom furniture drawings, construction documentation, project management, procurement, and installation.
- Select interior finish materials and prepare InDesign architectural concepts presentations.
- Prepare, coordinate, and maintain interior drawings and material specifications with architects and contractors as needed for construction. This includes preparing finish schedules, window treatment schedules, and digital material boards.
- Work with the Principal, the Design Director, and Senior Designer on developing fabric palettes and furniture selections to truly grasp the aesthetic of Annette English Associates.
- Select all fixed lighting fixtures, loose furniture, and fabrics and develop concepts in InDesign for client presentation.
- Review strike-offs for interior finish materials and shop drawings for cabinetry, stone, shower enclosures, and doors and windows.
- Prepare, develop, and maintain furniture budgets.
- Obtain quotes and prepare specifications for furniture, lighting, accessories, and artwork.
- Coordinate with the purchasing department for client proposal submittals and order expediting.
- Assist in creating and maintaining organized project files, schedules, budgets, and specifications.
- Communicate and collaborate with clients, vendors, general contractors, sub-contractors, consultants, furniture dealers, product representatives, and fabricators throughout project to meet overall project objectives.
- Maintain quality control through a project’s completion. Includes: finished construction, furniture construction, punch lists for contractor, and follow through.
- Manage vendors through all stages of quotes, bidding, project management, and installation.
- Onsite supervision of vendors. Visits to vendor’s shops to see furniture during construction. Attention to detail regarding vendor quality.
- Collaborate with Principal, Partner, and Senior Designers on installations and photo shoots.
- See a project from conception through installation.
- Attend meetings with the client, consultants, architects, and/or contractor.
- Participate in team meetings and construction site visits and prepare copious notes and documentation.
- Participate in architectural presentations for the client.
- Maintain client confidence and good relations.
- Creating, delegating, and overseeing project tasks and their completion by utilizing Asana.
Additional Duties for This Position Include:
- Be timely and communicative regarding issues, tasks, and deadlines.
- Ensure expectations remain on track and/or are adjusted appropriately.
- Inform the team of progress toward goals and any potential project conflicts or emerging issues.

The Intermediate Residential Interior Designer must possess a diverse range of knowledge and skills, including:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in interior design, interior architecture, or related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of interior design experience with a main concentration in Residential Design. Additional experience in Hospitality and Retail Interior Design is a plus.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and InDesign) required. Experience with Design Manager and Asana is a plus.
- Comfortable taking on design tasks on their own with direction from either the Design Director or the Principal.
- Ability to work on multiple projects in various phases at the same time.
- Ability to coordinate and complete construction documents.
- Experience with furniture selection and procurement.
- Knowledge of a variety of design styles and high-end furniture & lighting sources
- Excellent communication skills in person, over the phone, and through email.
- Ability to think critically about project workflow and recommend adjustments as necessary.
- Ability to develop, communicate, and present design concepts to their team and clients.
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting, while promoting collaboration.
- Express a desire to source new products and develop innovative design solutions.
- Ability to understand company goals and immerse yourself in daily work.
The Intermediate Residential Interior Designer must be able to work in the following environment and perform with these physical demands:
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment most of the time. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and other office machines. This job will occasionally require visits to client offices or job sites where we cannot control the environment.
Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role; however, the ability to move throughout the office and visit client offices or job sites is a requirement.
Additional Tasks as Requested
As is the nature of the small company environment, staff may from time to time be asked to take on novel or non-job-description-specific work or tasks that they are capable of performing. This may be done for a few reasons:
- To fill a light workload
- To help fulfill an upcoming deadline
- For staff members' professional growth
When filling a light workload or helping meet an upcoming deadline, the staff member may be asked to take on work considered parallel to or below the staff member’s current pay grade.
When fulfilling staff members' professional growth, goals, or tasks may be set above their pay grade to help them learn additional skills. This is considered training and will be well supported by superiors.

The salary listed is commensurate with experience. Health and dental benefits are available upon hire, and a 401 (k) is available after one year of employment. PTO is accrued, and sick leave is a lump sum.
