Position Summary

The Instructional Specialist in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department is responsible for providing high-quality education with associated curriculum development. Instruction and curriculum development will be in the areas of the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and Paramedic programs. Responsibilities include instruction in a variety of formats such as simulation, synchronous and asynchronous online education, in-person traditional classroom format, clinical and laboratory education, course planning, curriculum enhancements, learning outcomes, maintaining attendance, posting grades, tutoring, mentoring, and following college procedures. This position will serve as clinical coordinator for EMS students. Duties will include but are not limited to coordinating with clinical sites regarding affiliation agreements, student and instructor clearance process, shift availability, assist other full-time faculty and staff with maintaining compliance with COAEMSP and MIEMSS for student minimum competencies and clinical requirements while utilizing software, spreadsheets, and other tools. The Instructional Specialist for EMS must possess the ability to multitask in teaching and clinical coordination each semester.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional support: Supports educational programming in EMS coursework. Develops curriculum and instructs at all levels of education the department provides to its internal and external customers in support of credit and non-credit programming in emergency medical care. Provides mentoring, tutoring, and advising to current and future students. Coordinates clinical education to integrate across all EMS curricula.

Program and Administrative Support: Performs daily administrative duties in support of the enhancement and implementation of innovative noncredit, credit, and contract training. Provides support for faculty/staff and administrators in areas of learning outcomes, new strategies, simulation, clinical and course coordination.

Accreditation Support: Supports State and National mandatory requirements for course/program accreditation: Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS), Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP), and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP).

Required Qualifications:

Associate's degree

Current Paramedic certification (NREMT)

Three years of Emergency Medical Services experience.

Two or more years of teaching experience with adults in an allied health field using classroom and clinical education techniques.

Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive environment and the ability to deal tactfully with internal and external constituents.

Ability to work a flexible 40-hour weekly schedule including some evenings and weekends to accommodate the needs of the department and AACC.

Preferred Qualifications:

Three years of Paramedic experience.

Instructor I and II certification through the International Association for Fire Service Organizations, or must be obtained within one year of hire date.
