Position Summary: The Art Teacher is responsible for planning and leading engaging, inclusive art enrichment activities for children participating in the MOST Afterschool Program. The Art Teacher creates a fun, creative learning environment that encourages self-expression, builds confidence, and develops artistic skills while adapting activities to meet the diverse learning needs of children with disabilities
Areas of Responsibility:
A. Art Instruction
1. Develop and implement age-appropriate art lessons that promote creativity, imagination, and self-expression.
2. Introduce students to a variety of artistic techniques and mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, collage, and crafts.
3. Adapt art projects to meet individual learning styles and developmental abilities.
4. Encourage student participation while fostering creativity and confidence.
5. Maintain lesson plans and prepare materials in advance of each class.
6. Display student artwork throughout the program and school.
1. Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment.
2. Supervise students during art activities, transitions, and cleanup.
3. Utilize positive behavior supports and classroom management techniques.
4. Work collaboratively with teachers, Teacher Assistants, behavior staff, and program leadership.
5. Assist students with activities as needed while promoting independence.
1. Assist with planning special events, family nights, showcases, and seasonal art projects.
2. Support enrichment activities during school breaks, early release days, and summer programming.
3. Assist with setup and breakdown of classrooms and activities.
1. Maintain an organized, clean, and safe art classroom.
2. Monitor inventory of art supplies and notify the Site Supervisor when supplies need replenishment.
3. Ensure equipment and materials are used safely.
4. Follow all licensing, CSC, and Ann Storck Center policies and procedures.
5. Report accidents, injuries, behavioral incidents, or safety concerns immediately.
1. Maintain professional communication with students, families, and coworkers.
2. Participate in staff meetings and required trainings.
3. Support the mission and values of Ann Storck Center.
4. Maintain confidentiality of student information.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. High School Diploma or GED required.
2. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Art, Art Education, Education, Fine Arts, or a related field preferred.
3. Experience teaching art to children in a school, camp, afterschool, or community program preferred.
4. Experience working with children with disabilities is strongly preferred.
5. Ability to adapt activities for varying developmental and functional abilities.
6. Knowledge of a variety of art techniques and materials.
7. Creativity and enthusiasm for teaching art.
8. Ability to encourage creativity while maintaining classroom structure.
9. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
10. Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
1. Able to lift 50 lbs. in a safe and appropriate manner utilizing standard orientation techniques.
2. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting, standing and/or squatting in performance of job duties.
3. Must be able to hear, see, and communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without reasonable accommodation.
4. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of staff, students, and families, exercising effective problem-solving, reasoning, and critical thinking skills.
5. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
