Job Description:
The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) prepares and maintains the operating room by assisting surgeons and RNs with instruments, equipment, and supplies. Provides intraoperative support including maintaining sterile technique, passing instruments, assisting with exposure, hemostasis, tissue handling, and closure. Supports room setup, patient positioning and transport, and specialized equipment as part of the OR team.
Requirements & Work Environment:
Fast-paced ambulatory surgery setting with potential overtime. Requires prolonged standing, lifting up to 25 lbs, pushing/pulling carts up to 200 lbs, manual dexterity, and the ability to work under pressure. Exposure to bodily fluids; corrected vision and hearing required.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; medical terminology required
- CST and BLS required (Sterile Processing preferred)
- Strong organization, communication, teamwork, and professionalism
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up OR, instruments, and supplies; review case carts
- Maintain sterile field and perform surgical counts
- Assist with positioning, draping, and patient safety
- Pass instruments and assist during procedures
- Clean, assemble, and prepare instruments for sterilization
- Stock and maintain OR supplies
- Participate in training and performance improvement
- Other duties as assigned
