QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

The following is a list of qualifications for the position, any one of which may be waived by the Board in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Cognitive Impairment (SA)
Three years satisfactory teaching experience, including at least two years of teaching students with disabilities in a special education classroom
Experience in programming for students with emotional impairments; accommodations/ modifications desired
Knowledge/experience with special education due process procedures; writing of individual education plans, data collection and adherence to timelines desired
Successful background and experience working with students with emotional impairments
Successful experience supervising/planning for paraeducators desired
Experience with transition planning for students desired
Successful experience in communicating and working with parents desired
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan individual educational programs designed to meet student needs and conforms to curriculum standards and state/federal guidelines
Work collaboratively with itinerant special education staff (speech, OT, PT, etc.) and general education staff
Plan for and supervises support staff
Adhere to due process timelines and procedures (write IEP's and progress reports)
Communicate with parents/caregivers
Attend and participate in IEP, staff, and professional development meetings
Coordinate transition planning for each student
Other duties as assigned by Administrator
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Communicate effectively and present information both in oral and in written form
REASONING ABILITY:
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Interpret an extensive variety of statistical information and data related to student achievement.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Interact with public and other staff as required.
Apply knowledge of current replicated research and techniques related to sensory issues.
