HVAC Technician
Purpose Statement
The HVAC Technician ensures an optimal learning environment by providing comprehensive preventative and general maintenance for all district climate control systems. By prioritizing indoor air quality and system reliability, this role supports student and staff wellness while driving the effectiveness of district-wide energy management programs. This position works integrally with custodial, maintenance, and campus teams to ensure facilities are safe, efficient, and fully prepared for daily instruction and community events

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, preferred 2 years experience
- Journeyman HVAC License
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class C Non-Commercial Driver's License.
- Ability to read basic operating instructions
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in HVAC
- Demonstrates a reasonable degree of computer proficiency
- Building Automation experience, preferred
- Ability to obtain refrigerant license within first year of employment

Essential Functions
Technical Operations & Maintenance
- System Maintenance: Performs comprehensive preventative maintenance and repairs on high-pressure/low-pressure mechanical and electrical HVAC equipment to ensure peak performance and system longevity.
- Diagnostic Repair: Troubleshoots and resolves complex HVAC malfunctions, including ordering necessary replacement parts and executing field or shop-based repairs.
- Building Automation Oversight: Utilizes computerized Building Automation Systems (BAS) and specialized software to monitor, manage, and optimize district-wide HVAC efficiency and energy consumption.
Facility Readiness & Safety
- Operational Readiness: Conducts daily facility inspections to ensure climate control systems are operational and all mechanical areas are free of hazards prior to student and staff arrival.
- Emergency Response: Serves in the on-call rotation and responds promptly to urgent safety concerns, equipment alarms, or facility damage to mitigate risks and ensure building continuity.
- Shop Management: Maintains an organized inventory of critical replacement parts and manages the district repair shop to facilitate off-site equipment overhauls.
Communication & Documentation
- Workflow Management: Manages and completes electronic work orders within established timelines, providing detailed documentation of labor and materials used.
- Technical Compliance: Interprets and executes complex technical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and verbal instructions to ensure all work meets district standards and local codes.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Provides professional technical guidance to site personnel regarding equipment operation and safety; addresses inquiries from staff or visitors with accurate information and a customer-service focus.

Remains fully engaged in technical duties and maintains a professional work environment, ensuring personal electronic devices do not interfere with safety protocols, emergency response, or the timely completion of maintenance tasks.
- Reports in a timely manner the presence of all environmental hazards or dangerous substances to the immediate supervisor.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
