Job Summary: The Sanitation Lead will be responsible for ensuring a safe and clean working environment in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements. This role will supervise and coordinate the Sanitation Shift personnel and ensure that daily assignments are completed. Work as a team member with other department supervisors/managers to enforce the Food Safety Program and coordinate with the QC Department to ensure that corrective actions regarding sanitation are accomplished to ensure that the highest quality product is being provided to our customers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe work environment.
  • Assist in training new employees.
  • Lead the team by example and give direction if needed.
  • Observe and report all activities to the Manager.
  • Assist others with technical questions.
  • Assist others to ensure the equipment has been set correctly for sanitation activities.
  • Lead will need to direct and instruct sanitation personnel and assist to oversee housekeeping personnel.
  • Lead will coordinate the daily activities to keep the plant clean and in safe working conditions.
  • Lead will coordinate changeovers and boil-outs with the production supervisor/manager.
  • Lead needs to be able to work with Rabbi for kosher certification and maintain a kosher log.
  • Assign daily tasks to sanitation and housekeeping personnel and document all completed work on the “Master Sanitation Schedule”.
  • Lead needs to be able to manage used oil, remove from fryer, filter it, cool it down, store it, and keep inventory and document in “Used Oil Log” folder. Transfer used oil from holding tanks into empty totes and from fryers into holding tanks. Using a pallet jack or a forklift.
  • Lead needs to monitor the trash compactor and assist production with the waste compactor when needed.
  • Lead helps to keep an inventory of chemicals and sanitation supplies.
  • Lead needs to manage and keep equipment and tools.
  • Monitor chemical and equipment usage.
  • Make sure all employees are trained on chemical, basic GMP, and job training prior to assigning tasks.
  • Ability to resolve problems as they occur within the department
  • Must be able to communicate with other departments and Managers regarding issues that occur from shift to shift.
  • Bring forth new ideas regarding Sanitation.
  • Promote company policy and philosophy.
  • Supervise employee cleaning assignments, inspect areas to assure cleaning assignments have been completed and give cleaning recommendations if deficiencies are found.
  • Review all department paperwork and forms such as shift change format, Master Sanitation Schedule, oil change log, training logs, weekly safety trainings, etc.
  • Act as a backup to the supervisor during the supervisor's absence.
  • Perform caustic boil-outs and water boil-outs on all six fryers.
  • Wash corn, cook, and process the room with chemicals
  • Backfill open sanitation needs – do the physical work when needed
  • Report and address any discipline issues
  • Responsible for the completion of an assigned area during wash downs – corn room, packaging room, or fryer room
  • Understand and execute sanitation SSOPs
  • Work in collaboration with the Manager and other Sanitation leads to review SSOPs and improve them if necessary.
  • Assist with Emergencies in the plant, such as evacuations and drills, and have knowledge to use fire extinguishers if necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be able to read and follow written procedures
  • Proven attention to detail, responsible, mature, self-motivated
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, basic English is required
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is a plus
  • Schedule – must be able to rotate shifts if required and back-up co-workers when needed, including weekends. Sunday work is required.

  • Must have Food Safety experience and sanitation standards pertaining to food manufacturing.
  • Ability to work around the regular shift schedule, shift-based on production needs, including weekends.
  • Understand that weekends are the primary days for sanitation and must be available for wash-downs.
  • Forklift certified, primarily to move oil totes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Walk on uneven ground and wet or slippery floors
  • Twisting, turning, kneeling, stooping, and bending most of the day
  • May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to spices (allergens), including but not limited to soy and wheat
  • Exposure to high noise levels and a high heat environment

PPE - Hair and beard net, chemical-resistant and anti-slippery rubber boots, safety glasses, face shield, earplugs, bump hard cap, chemical-resistant overalls and gloves with long sleeves, and apron.

Schedule: 2nd Shift (1:00 pm - 9:30 pm)

  • Sundays are required due to wash downs
  • Flexible/Weekly changing schedule
