What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Bank Delivery Drivers position at Animals (and Humans) in Disaster, Empty Bowl Pet Food Pantry?
What We Do
Though their beloved pets, we help people in crisis!
No one should have to choose between feeding their pets or feeding themselves. Empty Bowl Pet Food Pantry helps pet owners facing financial challenges keep the promise they made to their pets to love and care for them forever.
Our attention is to special needs groups and gap service areas such as the "new homeless" (lost job or home), the disabled, veterans, seniors and those using assistance/therapy animals.
We are a service provider though coalitions such as Arizona Veterans Stand Down, United Way's Project Connect, Hopefest in Phoenix, Prescott and Tucson as well as partners with numerous agency's around Arizona to give pet food/items with their services because people - especially seniors and veterans, will ask for help for their pets, but not for themselves. When we help people return to sustainability, we help the pets long term!
We also teach the next generation the right way to care for pets and the humane treatment of animals; that it's not ok to abuse, neglect, starve, abandon or leave pets locked in a foreclosed home or without food or shelter.
We go into schools, create afterschool programs, do food drives, and get students, families and groups involved in giving back to their community.

Food Bank Delivery Drivers in any area of Maricopa County
We are especially hoping for drivers in the outlying cities of the outlying areas of the valley to begin to provide service to towns like Buckeye, Litchfield, Sun City, Anthem, Fountain Hills, Scottsdale, Tempe, Chander, Apache Junction, in addition to the central valley.(Phoenix,Mesa, Scottsdale, Glendate, Peoria)
We need drivers to help with our short term feeding program, delivering within a designated area. /we also need truck drivers all the way to 55 foot trucks to help with then occasional large supply of pet food we get offered. volunteers either with trucks or without are desired.
We start by responding to disasters when we get enough volunteers, then move into partnerships with other organizations to deliver food regularly as we get committed volunteers. We help all groups but pay special attention on assistance animals for disabled, veterans pets, seniors and chronic/terminal illness patients who have pets.
We generally work in teams of two to help in three ways.
You would meet at the designated
site to pick up food such as a pet food store, a grocery store, a distributions
warehouse or a business which is gathering food on our behalf
OR
be a driver to distribute a petfood bag to a family in your city or town
OR
Meet at our storage facilities to
pick up food to take to delivery points for distribution.
Generally commitments are made
per day, such as the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. We also need emergency
drivers for those short term opportunities which come up when we receive an
offer to take food on short notice.
This is a wonderful volunteer for
a couple, friends or family members to share this rewarding experience.
The length of time needed will
vary but generally from 1-3 hours.
We ask that commitments be made as for one of the time periods Sept-Dec, Jan-April, May-June.
