Position Summary
AnimalBiome is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Operations Assistant to support day-to-day operations at our Oakland headquarters. This role supports shipping, logistics, product preparation, facility upkeep, inventory organization, and general operational needs across multiple departments.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, organized, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment where responsibilities may evolve over time.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Preparation and Production Support
- Bottle, label, package, and prepare finished products for direct-to-consumer and wholesale orders
- Assist with kit preparation, labeling, bottling, and other production tasks as needed
- Verify label accuracy and packaging quality before products are shipped
- Restock the shipping room and production materials as needed
- Support finished goods inventory preparation and organization
Shipping and Logistics Support
- Assist with outgoing orders and package processing
- Manage outgoing packages and help ensure shipments are prepared accurately and on time
- Serve as a backup courier when needed; mileage reimbursement provided
- Deliver packages internally to various departments within the facility as needed
Facility Support
- Restock materials and supplies throughout the Oakland facility
- Unload pallets and organize incoming deliveries
- Break down and bundle cardboard
- Support mail and package distribution
- Assist with garbage, recycling, and general facility upkeep
- Help maintain a clean, organized, clutter-free, and safe work environment at all times
Inventory and General Operations
- Track and replenish materials for various departments
- Report low inventory levels or supply issues to the appropriate manager
- Assist with printing, labeling, moving materials, organizing supplies, and other general office or operations tasks
- Perform other duties as assigned
Laboratory and Equipment Support
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain equipment used in stool bank and courier/donor operations
- Maintain clean, organized laboratory workspaces and equipment
- Follow biosafety, contamination prevention, and standard operating procedures
- Support quality and safety standards across operations and lab-adjacent work areas
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1 year of experience in operations, logistics, shipping, warehouse, production, lab support, or a related hands-on role preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures
- Able to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities
- Comfortable working in a startup environment with evolving needs
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn internal systems and software
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to lift and move boxes or materials as needed
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record for backup courier responsibilities
Work Environment
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Oakland, California. The position involves a mix of production support, shipping/logistics work, facility support, and general operational tasks. The role may require standing for extended periods, lifting materials, and working in lab and warehouse-adjacent environments while following safety and biosafety protocols.
