What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Manager – Equity Showcase (September) – Theatre Four (The Beckett) position at Animal Stone Productions?
DESCRIPTION
Seeking an experienced, NYC-based Production Manager for an upcoming Equity Actors’ Showcase of a brand-new musical. The piece features a small ensemble and a unique musical score blending contemporary music with traditional Irish musical instrumentation.
The project is entering its next phase of development following a successful 29-hour developmental reading at the Irish Arts Center. We are now heading into a fully staged industry showcase at Theatre Row in Theatre Four (The Beckett Theatre) this September.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience navigating the fast-paced tech turnarounds inherent to multi-theater complexes, a strong background in acoustic/amplified sound coordination, and familiarity with Actors' Equity Association (AEA) showcase regulations.
Responsibilities:
-
Venue Liaison: Serve as the primary technical point of contact with the Theatre Row production and house staff, ensuring total compliance with Theatre Four / The Beckett space guidelines, load-in/load-out restrictions, and safety protocols.
-
Technical Coordination: Oversee the technical integration of lighting, scenic elements, and sound. Coordinate specific audio requirements for a mix of contemporary amplification and traditional acoustic instrumentation.
-
Scheduling & Logistics: Create and manage a detailed tech week schedule, maximizing Theatre Four's tight load-in and tech windows.
-
Compliance & Safety: Partner with the Production Stage Manager (PSM) to maintain a safe working environment that strictly adheres to the AEA Showcase Code boundaries.
-
Budget Oversight: Manage a streamlined physical production budget (scenery, lighting, sound, props) and coordinate any physical rentals or transport.
Qualifications:
-
Proven experience as a Production Manager or Technical Director for NYC theatrical productions (Off-Broadway, festival, or showcase scale preferred).
-
Demonstrated experience working within the Theatre Row building (specific experience with Theatre Four / The Beckett Theatre is a major plus).
-
Strong working knowledge of audio engineering/sound setups, specifically balancing acoustic folk instruments with contemporary backing tracks or amplified elements.
-
Exceptional communication skills and an ability to maintain a calm, efficient tech room under tight time constraints.
-
Must be based in the NYC area and have open availability during the tech and performance weeks in September.
