Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Care/Veterinary Technician to join our team. This role involves providing exceptional care for the dogs in our care as well as our sanctuary farm animals. Ability to give basic vaccines, blood draws, keep impeccable records, schedule veterinary appointments and bring the dogs to appointments. Schedule appointments for our sanctuary animals and assist as needed. Ensuring a safe and clean environment for both animals and staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal husbandry, veterinary terminology, and animal handling, with experience in clinical or shelter settings. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with dogs looking for new homes, support the animal care team , and prepare the dogs for new homes.
Responsibilities
- Perform initial exams for new dogs, organize medications, give basic vaccines, teach team members to assist with proper restraint and detailed med sheets.
- Perform animal husbandry duties such as feeding, cleaning kennels, and maintaining cleanliness
- Handle various animals mostly dogs, but occasionally cats, equines, goats and cows
- Maintain good relationships with our veterinarian and her team as well as any specialists.
- Maintain accurate records of treatments, procedures, and patient histories
- Support pet grooming and dog training activities as needed
- Ensure proper care for dogs returning from surgeries
- Assist in pet care activities including feeding, grooming, and behavioral training
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols related to animal restraint and handling
Requirements
- Prior kennel experience or veterinary assistant/technician experience preferred
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and pet care practices
- Experience with animal restraint techniques
- Familiarity with dog handling
- Strong understanding of animal husbandry and pet grooming skills
- Ability to handle animals safely and follow insturctions for removing dogs from kennels and rooms
- Excellent communication skills to work effectively within a team and interact compassionately with adopters
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting animals and standing for extended periods
- Certification or experience in veterinary critical care or equine handling is advantageous
- Perform other duties that are needed with the shelter dogs when medical is slow. Walking, training, playing and cleaning as needed.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $21.56 - $24.96 per hour
