Care & Enrichment/ Veterinary Assistant Team Member
Full-Time Veterinary Tech / Assistant
ABOUT THE ROLE
Animal Farm Foundation (AFF) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Care & Enrichment Team Member with a veterinary assistant background to join our dog care team. This hands-on role is ideal for a credentialed or experienced veterinary technician or veterinary assistant who is passionate about the wellbeing of dogs and large animals alike. You will be an essential part of daily operations, ensuring every animal in our care receives exceptional medical attention.
DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform all aspects of daily care for dogs at AFF, including feeding, cleaning, socialization, and enrichment activities
- Conduct initial intake exams for incoming animals, documenting findings accurately in records
- Administer vaccines and medications as directed by our local veterinarian
- Perform blood draws and collect samples for diagnostic testing
- Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting concerns promptly to management
- Schedule and coordinate veterinary visits, specialist appointments, and follow-up care
- Maintain thorough, accurate, and up-to-date medical and behavioral records for all animals
- Support enrichment programming to promote physical and psychological wellness
- On occasion, assist with the handling and basic care of horses, donkeys, cows, and goats
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience
- Proficiency with blood draws, vaccine administration, and basic clinical procedures
- Strong record-keeping skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as part of a regular schedule
- Physical ability to handle dogs and lift 50 lbs
- Comfort working outdoors in varied weather conditions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in a shelter, rescue, or sanctuary environment
- Prior handling experience with large animals (equine, bovine, small ruminants)
- Veterinary Office Experience
- Familiarity with shelter medicine protocols
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage scheduling systems
WORK SCHEDULE & CONDITIONS
- Full-time position; regular weekend and holiday shifts required
- Work is primarily performed on-site at Animal Farm Foundation’s property
- Role involves frequent bending, lifting, kneeling, and extended periods of physical activity
- Candidates must be comfortable in an animal care environment

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
