AVP, Cyber Underwriter

About the role

We are currently seeking an experienced AVP, Cyber Underwriter to join a growing Cyber underwriting team, with a focus on national large retail accounts.

This is a key underwriting position with responsibility for managing and growing a portfolio of complex Cyber business. The successful candidate will work closely with leading retail brokers and clients, taking ownership of underwriting decisions across new business and renewals while contributing to the continued growth and profitability of the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

• Underwrite and manage a portfolio of national large retail Cyber accounts, with responsibility for achieving profitable growth and strong portfolio performance.
• Lead the underwriting of complex new business and renewal opportunities, including risk selection, exposure analysis, pricing, structure, terms and conditions.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale and retail brokers, acting as a senior point of contact and representing the business in the marketplace.
• Analyse Cyber submissions, financial information, security controls, loss history and broader risk characteristics to assess the quality and suitability of individual risks.
• Exercise appropriate underwriting authority and make sound, commercially focused decisions within established guidelines and appetite.
• Develop and execute strategies for portfolio growth, retention and profitability across the national retail segment.
• Work collaboratively with brokers to structure solutions that are competitive while maintaining underwriting discipline.
• Monitor portfolio performance, market conditions, emerging Cyber exposures and competitor activity, adjusting underwriting strategy where appropriate.
• Support the development of underwriting guidelines, appetite and pricing strategies for the Cyber portfolio.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to more junior members of the underwriting team.
• Collaborate with claims, actuarial, product, operations and other internal teams to support the overall performance of the Cyber business.
• Ensure all underwriting activity is conducted in accordance with company guidelines, governance requirements and regulatory standards.

About you:

• 5- 8 years of Cyber underwriting experience, ideally within the US market.
• Proven experience underwriting large, complex national accounts, within the retail sector.
• Strong technical understanding of Cyber risk, coverage, policy structures, pricing and portfolio management.
• An established network of relationships with leading retail and/or wholesale brokers.
• Demonstrable experience managing a portfolio against growth, profitability and retention objectives.
• Strong commercial judgement and the ability to balance growth opportunities with underwriting discipline.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build credibility with senior brokers and clients.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex risk information and make informed underwriting decisions.
• The ability to operate independently while working collaboratively across a broader underwriting team.
• Experience working within an established underwriting authority and governance framework.
