Angel Flight West (AFW) delivers health and hope through donated flights for those with healthcare or other compelling human needs. In the air, AFW links volunteer pilots and commercial airlines with people whose non-emergency health needs require air transportation to access care. On the ground, volunteer drivers ferry passengers to and from departure and destination airports. AFW has volunteer-led branches—called Wings—in 12 western states.
AFW is seeking a part-time Communications Intern to help create digital content that reaches patients in need of transportation, healthcare partners to educate, and volunteer pilots and drivers to donate rides. The intern will work collaboratively with AFW’s Director of Communications to maximize digital strategy potential. Candidates should have excellent verbal and written communication skills and a keen eye for detail, content creation, and/or graphic design.
Responsibilities may include:
- Create and post content for social media platforms following AFW branding guidelines. Work with the Communications Manager to update branding guidelines as needed.
- Work with all departments to gather content and information for digital projects.
- Interview passengers and volunteers to write stories for AFW campaigns, newsletters, and media releases.
- Assist with development of email campaigns targeting healthcare requesters, volunteers, passengers, and supporters via Constant Contact and Mailchimp.
- Organize photos and stories submitted by volunteers and passengers via the organization’s database system.
- Support website maintenance and creation of new webpages using WordPress.
- Track analytics and insights and adjust content based on performance.
- Assist with graphics and design as requested by departments.
- Assist with other marketing projects as needed.
Requirements and Expectations:
- Part-time (10–20 hours per week)
- Open to college students with an interest in journalism, English, communications, marketing, writing, aviation, graphic design, or nonprofit management
- Completion of 2 years of a college degree program
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of social media management is a plus
- Skilled with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva is a plus
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive data
