Duties
- Review and verify medical records to ensure accuracy and completeness for billing purposes.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims accurately, adhering to payer-specific requirements.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection practices, including resubmission and appeals when necessary.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies that impact billing accuracy.
- Monitor accounts receivable and implement strategies to expedite collections while minimizing denials.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, adjustments, and collections in compliance with privacy regulations.
- Stay current with industry updates related to ICD coding changes, reimbursement policies, and billing regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Share in training staff on best practices for medical billing procedures and coding updates.
- Support audits by providing detailed documentation of billing processes and coding accuracy.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing, revenue cycle management, or a related healthcare administrative role.
- Strong knowledge of medical coding systems including CPT, and ICD-10 coding practices.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and documentation standards.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR and practice management systems for billing and recordkeeping purposes.
- Understanding of insurance claim submission processes and denial management strategies.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills to handle multiple accounts efficiently.
- Ability to interpret complex medical data accurately and translate it into appropriate billing codes.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations related to privacy (HIPAA) and compliance standards within the revenue cycle process.
