Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Pre/Post-Op Registered Nurse (RN) to join our surgical team. This role is critical in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care throughout the perioperative process. The ideal candidate will demonstrate clinical expertise, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Assess patient status upon admission to pre-op, operating room, and post-op areas
Deliver safe, therapeutic care using the nursing process and evidence-based practices
Coordinate nursing interventions to support expected outcomes and discharge readiness
Document all care activities and patient responses accurately and timely
Administer conscious sedation and monitor sedated patients, ensuring airway protection and safety
Identify and mitigate safety hazards for sedated/anesthetized patients (e.g., equipment, temperature, privacy)
Maintain competencies in aseptic technique, universal precautions, and surgical safety principles
Participate in pre/post-op phone calls and escalate concerns appropriately
Communication & Collaboration
Communicate patient conditions to surgeons, anesthesia providers, management, and staff
Carry out physician orders promptly and accurately
Educate patients and families, assessing readiness and understanding
Serve as a mentor and role model to nursing and ancillary staff
Participate in staff orientation and ongoing education initiatives
Compliance & Administration
Stay current on federal/state laws, accreditation standards, and professional regulations
Submit required reports in a timely manner
Recommend and help implement policies, procedures, and best practices
Adhere to all confidentiality, infection control, OSHA, and safety standards
Support AIASC’s regulatory certifications and accreditation efforts
Respond to emails and communications efficiently
Perform additional duties as assigned, including PolicyStat education and Safety Officer responsibilities
Qualifications
Current RN license in the state of Florida
BLS certification required; ACLS preferred and must be obtained within 90 days of hire
Minimum 2 years of perioperative or surgical nursing experience preferred
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to adapt to changing departmental needs and flex work hours as required
