Primary Purpose:

 

Provide district level oversight and direction to all programs under Student Support Services.  Direct staff development tailored to campus needs and supporting district initiatives.  Model effective communication, technology skills, planning practices, data analysis, and best practice in all areas of work.  Highlight success and initiate change in all areas in need of improvement as it relates to Student Support Services.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

Master’s degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate and principal certificate.  Demonstrated competency in one or more core academic subject areas.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of:   1) Special Education, 2) Section 504, 3) Dyslexia Services, 4) Family Services, 5) Health Services, 6) State Assessment, 7) GT, 8) Federal Programs

 

Experience:

District Level Administration and/or Instructional Leadership Experience at the Campus or District Level

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Special Ed, Section 504, Dyslexia Services, Family Services, Health Services and State Assessment, GT, Federal Programs

 

  1. Determine the goals, objectives, and priorities of the above programs in conjunction with nurses and other staff and within the goals and strategic plan established by the district.
  1. Develop programs and recommend policies. Provide expert advice to district administration and other departments regarding policies and procedures on matters impacting students, staff, and the community.  
  1. Collaborate with district level administration to integrate and implement policies and practices with priorities of the district. 
  1. Manage the delivery of above campus/district services and ensure consistent implementation of program policies. 
  1. Serve as permanent member of district’s school health advisory committee. Participate in the development of health education curriculum and contribute to other committees related to health and safety issues of students and staff.  
  1. Coordinate department and district staff development, orientation, training, and certification as related to student services under your supervision.

 

Instruction 

  1. Support directors and campus principals to ensure effective programs on each campus. 

Staff Development 

  1. Assess campus and district needs in relation to staff development. 
  1. Direct staff development by obtaining in-district and out-of-district trainers according to district initiatives and determined needs based on data and staff input. 
  1. Maintain a need-based program of effective staff development for the district and apprise all staff of offerings. 
  1. Ensure appropriate evaluation and ongoing support for staff development initiatives. 
  1. Respond to staff development evaluations with proper awareness to administration and change (when applicable). 
  1. Analyze progress according to student groups and special programs in an effort to evaluate and improve in all areas. 
  1. Work with district level administration, campus principals, and teachers to support success by student group and program areas. 

Director of Student Support Services

 

Technology 

  1. Use technology to strengthen programs and processes for the district. 
  1. Keep current on teaching and learning instructional technology and understand how it supports all areas of instruction. 
  1. Understand and support staff functioning within these services, which may include training, advising, data input, and reporting. 

Legal Requirements and Compliance 

  1. Provide information and data for completing state and federal reports. 
  1. Ensure compliance with SBOE, TEA, federal and state requirements and local policies. 
  1. Remain informed and comply with state, district, and school policies related to programs under your direction. 

Professionalism, Communication, and Additional Responsibilities 

  1. Maintain a professional relationship with supervisors, colleagues, students, parents, and community members. 
  1. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. 
  1. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. 
  1. Direct, attend, and participate in meetings, including Professional Learning Communities when necessary. 
  1. Maintain professionalism at all times in order to set a high standard of excellence as a leader in the district for all teaching and learning. 
  1. Duties may be added as determined by immediate supervisor to support district functions. 
  1. Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment. 

Other 

  1. Adhere to Texas school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and regulations, school regulations and procedures, and contractual obligations. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

Supervise assigned Nurses, Family Service Coordinator, Section 504 Coordinator, GT Coordinator, Special Ed Personnel

Maintain professionalism, Maintain emotional control under stress, and a demanding schedule that may require difficult conversations, long/odd hours, travel and adhering to tight deadlines.

 

 

 

 

 

EVALUATION:              Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the supervisor in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy.  Evaluation will be documented on the Staff Evaluation form for this position.
