Museum Cafe' Manager

Job Summary:

The Museum Café Lead is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of The Hermitage’s museum café, ensuring exceptional guest service, smooth workflows, and a polished, welcoming environment. This role provides hands-on leadership to café staff, manages inventory and service standards, and ensures compliance with all operational and regulatory requirements. The Café Lead plays a key role in supporting the visitor experience and upholding The Hermitage’s hospitality and brand standards.

Leadership Responsibilities:

• Provides daily leadership to Café Attendants and seasonal staff, ensuring effective performance and a cohesive team environment.
• Coordinates hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing coaching with support from internal staff.
• Prepares daily work assignments, monitors service execution, and ensures all team members follow procedures and standards.
• Sets the example for professionalism, service quality, and guest engagement.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Oversee full café operations each day, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and the highest level of visitor service.
• Manage POS functions, cash handling, register accuracy, and all opening/closing procedures.
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels; place or coordinate orders for beverages, packaged foods, café supplies, and equipment needs.
• Ensure café spaces—including service counters, storage areas, beverage stations, seating zones, and prep areas—remain clean, organized, and guest-ready.
• Enforce all safety, sanitation, and alcohol-service regulations, maintaining compliance at all times.
• Partner with Visitor Experience staff for group visits, programs, tours, and special events requiring café support.
• Monitor daily sales activity, support financial reporting, and identify revenue-growth opportunities.
• Respond promptly and professionally to guest inquiries, concerns, and escalations.
• Consistently uphold and model The Hermitage’s hospitality standards, enhancing the visitor experience and overall brand reputation.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support café and museum operations.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Strong leadership skills with proven experience directing or supervising staff in a café, restaurant, concessions, or similar environment.
• Excellent communication and customer-service abilities with a visitor-first mindset.
• Thorough understanding of café or food-service operations, including safety protocols and product management.
• Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain composure, accuracy, and service standards in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with POS systems, cash handling, and basic computer applications.
• Ability to ensure compliance with food safety and alcohol-service regulations.

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in hospitality, retail, or business preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or lead experience in café, restaurant, concessions, or retail operations.
• Prior experience with inventory management, staff scheduling, and guest service leadership required.
• Ability to obtain required alcohol-service certification.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. for stocking and supply tasks.
• Frequent bending, walking, reaching, and repetitive movements.
• Availability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings as required by museum operations.
