Duties
- Provide immediate response and care for students experiencing illness or injury during school hours, including administering first aid, CPR, AED operation, and basic life support.
- Assess student health needs through vital signs measurement, patient assessment, and physiology knowledge to determine appropriate actions or referrals.
- Administer medications, injections, IV insertions, and other treatments following strict protocols and medical documentation standards.
- Maintain accurate medical records using electronic health records (EHR) systems and ensure confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers regarding student health concerns and treatment plans.
- Monitor and manage infectious disease control measures within the school environment to ensure safety for all students and staff.
- Collaborate with school staff on health policies, emergency response procedures, and compliance with state nursing practice acts and health regulations.
Experience
- Valid licensure as a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN) through the State Board of Nursing with current certification in CPR, First Aid, AED operation, and Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Prior experience working in a school clinic setting is highly preferred; experience in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or urgent care is advantageous.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining excellent communication skills for effective parent interaction and interprofessional collaboration.
