Role Description This role supports attorneys handling civil litigation defense matters by preparing and formatting legal documents, organizing case files, and managing deadlines and court calendars. Daily responsibilities include drafting correspondence, filing and serving pleadings, maintaining electronic and paper records, and coordinating communication with clients, courts, and opposing counsel. The Legal Assistant also assists with discovery responses, trial preparation, and administrative tasks such as scheduling, data entry, and billing support to ensure efficient case management.
Qualifications
- Foundational knowledge of law and litigation defense procedures, with the ability to understand case processes and court requirements.
- Strong skills in legal document preparation and formatting, including pleadings, discovery materials, correspondence, and court filings.
- Excellent communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication with attorneys, clients, courts, and opposing counsel.
- Experience providing administrative assistance in a legal environment, including file management, calendaring, and deadline tracking.
- Experience working as a Legal Assistant, Legal Secretary, or similar role in litigation or related practice areas.
- High level of organization, time management, and attention to detail, with the ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously.
- Proficiency with legal practice software, document management systems, Microsoft Office, and electronic court filing platforms.
- Ability to work on-site, collaborate effectively in a team, and maintain confidentiality and professional ethics.
- Preferred: Associate’s degree, paralegal or legal assistant certificate, or comparable experience in a law firm setting.
