Veterinary Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Veterinary Assistant

Responsibilities:

Provide technical and medical support of animals; maintain facility, equipment, records, and supplies. Assist with surgeries and treatment. Perform lab tests and communicate medical information to other staff. Routinely check the functionality of medical/lab equipment. Oversee the care of the animals in the clinic; maintain a safe and sterile environment. Update and enter information into medical records.

Required Licenses or Certifications

A valid SC Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.
Certified in Humane Euthanasia, or ability to receive certification.

Competencies for Successful Performance of Job Duties

Working knowledge of animal restraint and care technique.
Ability to competently handle unpleasant, as well as physically and emotionally demanding work.
Skill in operating the tools and equipment listed below.
Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and the public; ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

MINIMUM QUIALIFICATIONS

FORMAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalency
