Our school district is seeking a passionate and student-centered Vocal Music Teacher who is committed to inspiring a love of music while helping students develop their vocal abilities, musical knowledge, and performance skills. This position plays an important role in fostering creativity, confidence, and collaboration through a vibrant vocal music program.

 

The Vocal Music Teacher will lead vocal instruction and direct choral ensembles while creating engaging learning experiences that help students grow both musically and personally. Through rehearsals, performances, and classroom instruction, this educator will build a culture where students feel encouraged to participate, take risks, and celebrate the arts.

Vocal Music Teacher

Job Description

Position Purpose

The Vocal Music Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive vocal music program that develops students’ musical skills, appreciation for music, and performance abilities. The teacher provides instruction in vocal technique, music literacy, and ensemble performance while fostering creativity, collaboration, and confidence in students. This position directs vocal ensembles and prepares students for concerts, performances, and school or community events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver engaging vocal music instruction aligned with district curriculum and state standards.
  • Teach proper vocal techniques including tone production, breathing, diction, posture, and musical expression.
  • Develop students’ music literacy including rhythm, pitch, sight reading, and music theory.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and varying ability levels.
  • Incorporate a variety of musical genres, cultures, and historical contexts into instruction.

Ensemble Direction

  • Direct vocal ensembles such as choir, select choir, and other vocal groups as assigned.
  • Select and prepare appropriate repertoire for performances.
  • Rehearse students for concerts, school programs, festivals, and other performances.
  • Organize and manage rehearsals efficiently and productively.

Performance and Events

  • Plan and coordinate vocal music performances including concerts and school programs.
  • Prepare students for district, regional, or state music festivals and competitions as appropriate.
  • Coordinate logistics related to performances including scheduling, equipment, and communication with families.

Student Development

  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and growth.
  • Promote confidence, teamwork, discipline, and appreciation for the arts.
  • Monitor and assess student progress in musical skills and performance.
  • Provide constructive feedback to support student improvement.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work collaboratively with other music teachers and school staff to support the district music program.
  • Communicate with students, parents, and administrators regarding performances, expectations, and student progress.
  • Participate in school events, activities, and professional responsibilities.

Program Management

  • Maintain and organize music equipment, instruments, sheet music, and classroom resources.
  • Assist with budgeting and purchasing for the vocal music program as assigned.
  • Ensure proper care and inventory of music materials and equipment.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain appropriate certification and professional development in music education.
  • Follow district policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional learning, and school initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field.
  • Valid state teaching license with endorsement in Music Education (Vocal/Choral preferred).
  • Knowledge of vocal pedagogy, choral directing, and music education practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students of varying musical abilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, conduct, and lead rehearsals for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move music equipment or materials when necessary.
