- Planning, preparing, and serving food/meals at the Anderson County Senior Center
- Preparing food for specific events related to the Senior Center Programs.
- Cleaning of the kitchen and equipment each day after use.
- Cleaning up spills in the event of unexpected accidents in and near the facility's kitchen.
- Inspecting food and food preparation to maintain quality standards and sanitation regulations.
- Shopping for food ingredients and supplies as needed.
- Direct/oversee staff assisting with food preparation.
- Performing related duties as required.
Necessary Requirements of Work
Experience operating both commercial and small appliance kitchen equipment; Experience working with the public. Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job.
ability to consistently adhere to established operating policies and procedures and work schedules; or any equivalent combination of education or experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities and skills.
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED) preferred
- Two years of cooking experience in food service establishment preferred
- Completion of the ServSafe food handler's course within six months of employment and maintain recertification as required by the Tennessee Department of Education and Tennessee Department of Health.
- Knowledge of proper food safety procedures and precautions pertaining to the proper handling and disposal of food and related supplies, per state and federal food safety guidelines.
- CPR, First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator training encouraged.
- Interact daily with senior citizens, co-workers, supervisors, visitors and venders in a courteous and professional manner.
- Knowledge of both commercial and small appliance kitchen equipment, supplies, and materials used in an institutional setting.
- Ability to plan and organize regular food activities to complete established work assignments and assist other staff as needed.
- Ability to react to emergency or unexpected events in a prompt and responsive manner.
- Ability to consistently adhere to established operating policies, procedures, and schedules.
Participate in training, attend workshops, and meetings that enhance job performance and knowledge
Work Environment and Physical Effort
The employee generally will perform duties in kitchen and dining room of the Anderson County Senior Center. Expected hours of work: two non-consecutive days per week, approximately no more than 15 to 20 hours per week. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stand; use hands to handle/touch and feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; taste and or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance: stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and or move more than 50 pounds.
