CARPENTER I

Definition

Performs a variety of semi-skilled carpentry work and technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Supervision

Receives general supervision from higher level supervisory staff.

Duties - may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Perform rough carpentry from beginning to end including new construction, maintenance and repair.

Hang drywall sheathing and install other types and forms of paneling.

Construct concrete formwork; pour and repair concrete pads, footings, stains and related items.

Assist others in completing other related construction tasks.

Perform general demolition of all types of building construction.

Install/tie concrete reinforcing.

Erect scaffolding and ladders.

Follow oral instructions.

Perform general cleanup at job sites.

Qualifications

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Basic Knowledge Of

principles, procedures and terminology used in the construction trade; tools and materials used in carpentry; methods and procedures used in building construction; materials and equipment used in carpentry trades; occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Ability To

correctly use and apply a variety of basic carpentry skills; understand and follow oral and written instructions; maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities (see Physical Conditions below); maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception for making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, and operating assigned equipment and vehicles.

Education, Experience, Training, Licenses, And Certificates

***Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.***

Education

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience

Minimum of one year related experience.

License

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid drivers license.

Job Conditions

Working Conditions:

99% of time is spent working at job sites. Some driving is required.

Environmental Conditions/Hazards

Field environment; exposure to motorized carpentry equipment, noise, dust, and fumes; may work at heights; normal hazards associated with construction environment.
