Position Summary:

The Regulatory, Food Safety & Compliance Chemist ensures that all products, raw materials, manufacturing processes, and quality systems comply with applicable food safety, chemical, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Serving as a key technical resource, this role supports product stewardship, laboratory quality assurance, regulatory affairs, customer compliance requests, and food safety programs. This position helps maintain the highest standards of quality, safety, and operational excellence within a chemical manufacturing environment serving food, industrial, and specialty chemical markets.

Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation

  • Monitor & Maintain Compliance - Oversee adherence to federal, state, and local regulations applicable to chemical detergents, disinfectants, and food-grade manufactured products.
  • Regulatory Frameworks: Assist and support compliance with major industry standards and regulations, including:
  • FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)
  • Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
  • Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls (HARPC)
  • OSHA-GHS Hazard Communication Standards
  • EPA disinfectant regulations
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous materials requirements
  • Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)
  • Filings & Registrations - Prepare and maintain regulatory filings, registrations, certifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Continual Regulatory Awareness - Monitor upcoming regulatory changes and communicate potential impacts to management and operational teams.

Food Safety & Quality Management

  • System Support – Support and assist with company's food safety and quality management systems.
  • Risk Mitigation - Participate in hazard analyses, risk assessments, and preventive control programs (including HACCP, HARPC, and cGMP implementation).
  • Investigations - Assist with food safety and product quality investigations, supporting appropriate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Audit Readiness – Assist and support ongoing compliance with customer, industry, and certification requirements.

Laboratory and Quality Assurance

  • Analytical Testing - Perform analytical testing of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products.
  • Data Review - Review laboratory results and formulations against specifications and regulatory standards to approve or reject materials.
  • Method Optimization - Support method development, validation, and continuous improvement of laboratory procedures.

Product Stewardship and Documentation

  • Assist, support and maintenance:
  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Backup Certificates of Analysis (COA)
  • Product Specifications
  • Regulatory Compliance Statements
  • Technical Data Sheets (TDS)
  • Assist with Food Safety Documentation Packages
  • Assist with customer regulatory questionnaires and technical requests
  • Support new product introductions and product change management processes

Environmental, Health & Safety Support

  • Support chemical inventory management and hazard communication programs.
  • Assist with environmental reporting and compliance activities.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Promote safe laboratory and manufacturing practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology or a related scientific discipline.
  • 3–5 years in chemical/food ingredient manufacturing, QA, laboratory operations, or regulatory affairs.
  • Background in food-grade chemicals, specialty chemicals, or ingredient manufacturing preferred.
  • Familiarity with FDA, OSHA, EPA, DOT, and TSCA requirements; knowledge of food safety regulations and quality management systems.
  • Understand chemical manufacturing processes, laboratory operations, and SDS and regulatory documentation preparation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and technical writing abilities.
  • Proficient with MS Office, ERP, and Regulatory

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
