General Description
The Shipping & Receiving Assistant supports daily warehouse operations for a commercial
subcontractor manufacturing shop. This role is responsible for accurately receiving, inspecting,
organizing, and shipping building materials, tools, and equipment. The ideal candidate is
detail-oriented, safety-focused, and able to handle the physical and logistical demands of a
fast-paced warehouse environment.
Skills, Duties, and Responsibilities
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming construction materials against purchase orders, packing slips, and delivery documentation.
- Safely load and unload trucks, ensuring materials are handled properly to prevent damage.
- Pick and prepare outgoing orders for delivery or pickup, verifying accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain proper organization of materials, labeling, and storage areas to optimize space and accessibility.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment safely and in compliance with company policies.
- Assist with inventory control, including cycle counts and reconciliation of discrepancies.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, vendors, and internal teams to coordinate shipping and receiving activities.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized warehouse environment.
- Follow all company safety procedures.
- Warehouse and yard setting with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
- Standard hours with possible overtime based on project demand.
Position Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1–2 years of experience in a warehouse, shipping/receiving, or construction materials environment preferred.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and handle heavy or bulky materials.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with warehouse or inventory management systems preferred.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a positive, safety-first attitude.
