ANCSA Regional Association (ARA) represents the presidents and CEOs of the 12 land-based Alaska Native regional corporations established under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971. Collectively owned by over 160,000 Alaska Native shareholders, ARA’s mission is to support the economic growth and prosperity of these corporations for the benefit of Alaska Native shareholders, their descendants, and communities. ANCSA corporations are essential to Alaska's economy, employing tens of thousands locally and globally while driving development in key industries. Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Director of Government Affairs based in Washington, DC. The Director will lead efforts to build and maintain relationships with governmental bodies, advocate for policies and legislation aligned with the interests of ARA and its member corporations, and oversee legislative initiatives. They will also collaborate with leadership to develop strategies for addressing policy issues and represent the collective voice of ARA in legislative environments, ensuring the interests of Alaska Native regional corporations and their stakeholders are prioritized.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in Governmental Affairs, Government Relations, and Lobbying
- Thorough understanding of Federal and State Government and Legislative Relations
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and Alaska state legislative and regulatory processes
- Strategic thinking and proven experience in policy analysis, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and formal presentations
- A proactive, results-oriented approach with the ability to balance multiple priorities effectively
- Proven leadership skills and experience working with executives or senior leaders
- Familiarity with Alaska Native cultures, communities, and the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) is highly desirable
