Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Chief of Logistics, Facility Service Technician II serves as an advanced-level technician responsible for maintaining AMFEMS buildings and grounds in optimal condition. This position requires proficiency in complex facility systems, advanced troubleshooting skills, and the ability to coordinate projects, vendors, and preventive maintenance schedules with minimal oversight.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to operate district vehicles in compliance with department insurance requirements.
- Demonstrated advanced mechanical aptitude.
- Minimum of three (3) years of verifiable work experience in building maintenance, construction, or facility operations.
- Proficiency in operating, troubleshooting, and repairing facility systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with computers, tablets (iPads), and scheduling/maintenance management software.
- Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records, logs, and reports.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and building system diagrams.
- Ability to understand and follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and comply with safety policies.
- Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory role.
Desirable Qualifications
- Relevant trade certifications in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or commercial facility management.
- Experience supervising vendors or coordinating facility projects.
- Knowledge of fire/life safety systems and building management systems (BMS).
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
- Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems.
- Operate, inspect, and maintain HVAC systems and associated equipment.
- Conduct facility inspections and document operational status.
- Manage or coordinate vendor contracts for maintenance and repairs.
- Respond promptly to maintenance emergencies and critical repairs.
- Prepare condition reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Use scheduling and work order software to plan and track maintenance activities.
- Mentor or assist in training Facility Technician I staff.
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Perform other facility-related duties as assigned.
Special Position Requirements
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, climbing ladders, and lifting/moving up to 100 lbs.
- Work may be performed indoors, outdoors, or on rooftops in varying weather conditions.
- Availability to respond to after-hours facility needs and emergencies.
