What’s the Opportunity?

Anchor QEA is seeking an experienced Senior Biologist / Project Manager to lead and deliver high-impact ecological and restoration projects across the Pacific Northwest, with a strong focus on Washington State and Puget Sound ecosystems. The successful candidate will leverage their established relationships with municipalities, state and federal agencies, tribal members, non-governmental entities and funding bodies to position Anchor QEA and our clients for success on competitive projects, including those supported by Floodplains by Design and Salmon Recovery Fund grants.

Anchor QEA delivers innovative projects across Washington and nationwide, including marsh and estuary restoration, riverine and stream restoration, compensatory mitigation, fish passage, living shorelines and engineering with nature and nature-based solutions. The ideal candidate will bring more than 10 years of experience in both desktop and field habitat assessment, habitat restoration design, and project delivery. You’ll lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor staff, build strong client relationships, and develop innovative solutions for restoration, regulatory, and habitat enhancement challenges.

We are committed to investing in the right person and to providing support to foster your professional success and long-term impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex biological and ecological studies in freshwater, estuarine, marine, and riparian environments — including habitat assessments, species surveys, and biological evaluations.
  • Plan and manage large-scale restoration projects, from initial identification of limiting factors to alternatives development and feasibility studies through final design, permitting, construction oversight, and adaptive management.
  • Develop and implement mitigation strategies, and represent clients in consultation with agencies such as NOAA, USFWS, USACE, Ecology, and WDFW and tribes.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget, including QA/QC review of technical deliverables, oversight of field teams, and coordination of subcontractors.
  • Mentor and support junior staff, fostering a culture of quality, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including positioning for and winning multi-disciplinary projects with a focus on resilient restoration solutions either as part of a larger team or as the prime contractor. This would be accomplished through leveraging existing relationships, serving as a visible leader in professional organizations, developing new clients, identifying project opportunities, leading proposal efforts, and capturing new work.

What Are We Looking For?

The ideal candidates will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in biology, ecology, natural resources, or a related field.
  • 10 years of professional experience in biology, habitat restoration, or related field.
  • Deep knowledge of Pacific Northwest ecosystems, including Puget Sound and western Washington watersheds.
  • Expertise in restoration design and implementation, including floodplains, riparian zones, estuaries, rivers, streams, and fish passage improvements.
  • Experience in local, state, and federal permitting or coordination/communication/facilitation with agencies and tribes
  • Proven experience in managing complex projects, including familiarity with project management tools and experience in developing and managing scopes, detailed schedules, budgets, and subconsultants.
  • Proven leadership in business development activities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and foster a positive work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences
