Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit medical claims using billing software, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and payer requirements.
- Review medical records, documentation, and coding details to ensure accuracy before claim submission.
- Utilize CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), and ICD coding systems to assign appropriate codes for procedures and diagnoses.
- Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims through medical collection efforts, resolving discrepancies efficiently.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, patient accounts, and insurance correspondence within EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, insurance companies, patients, and other stakeholders to clarify billing issues or resolve disputes.
- Stay current with healthcare claims management policies, health insurance regulations, and updates in medical coding standards.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing or healthcare office administration with familiarity in medical records management.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), DRG classifications, and healthcare claims processing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and billing software; experience with EMR/EHR systems is essential.
- Understanding of health insurance plans, benefits verification, and medical collection procedures.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and professionally.
- Ability to interpret medical records accurately and ensure proper documentation for billing purposes.
- Prior experience working in a healthcare setting or medical office environment is highly preferred.
