POSITION TITLE: Registered Dietitian Specialist
REPORTS TO (TITLE): Dietary Manager
SUPERVISED BY: Chief Nursing Officer
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
We are seeking a qualified Dietitian to provide our patients with comprehensive advice on matters of dietary improvement and well-being through assessment, evaluation, recommendation, and monitoring of patient nutrition. As an expert in food and nutrition, the Dietitian will be responsible for developing dietary plans, assessment / management of the nutritional needs of our patients, and providing nutritional health advice.
The primary function of the Dietitian is to support the Dietary Manager by working as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team reviewing patient care and treatment plans and then utilizing their knowledge of nutrition and food to help individuals improve their health through dietary management, assess for compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to dietary services provided in both inpatient and outpatient services. Proactively educate staff as well as monitor and report compliance data.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Admissions/Discharges/Transfers: Evaluate a patient’s nutritional needs based on their health, age, weight and communicate with other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care related to dietary requirements / needs.
- Daily Activities-Initial Assessments: Assess, develop and implement customized meal plans for patients based on their preferences, health history, dietary restrictions, and provider care orders.
- Daily Activities-Ongoing Monitoring: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of meal plans, making changes as necessary.
- Daily Activities-Evidence Based Practice Management: Conduct research on the latest nutritional science findings, stay current on trends and developments, and make recommendations through hospital and medical staff committees as appropriate.
- Recordkeeping: Maintains appropriate records within the Dietary Department and documents appropriately within all patient record keeping systems (paper and EMR) to include patient progress, dietary intake and other diet related treatment plan assessments and outcomes.
- Training: Provide patient, staff and provider in-service training and education about nutrition and the impacts of diet on overall health and well-being.
- Compliance/Regulatory Reporting: Create/present compliance and regulatory reports as assigned.
- QAPI: Prepare/submit monthly dietary reports to-from the hospital’s QAPI committee.
Minimum Requirements:
Education and Licensing:
- Current license as a Dietitian, Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
- Bachelors of Science (BSc) in Nutrition, Dietetics or related field approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, required
- Maintain continuing education to meet requirements to maintain licensure and certification, required
- Certification in dietetics (RD or RDN) or equivalent area, required
- Current AHA BLS certification, required and maintain current
- Management of Assaultive Behavior to be obtained within 60 days of hire, required
Knowledge and Experience:
- Two (2) or more years, experience in an acute health care setting, required
- Demonstrated knowledge of health care service delivery systems and quality improvement practices
- Ability to apply and interpret compliance and regulatory standards
- Strong understanding of throughput processes, facilitators and barriers in healthcare systems
- Familiarity with medical terminology, diagnostic terms and treatment modalities
- Knowledge of medical record-keeping requirements
- Ability to effectively facilitate various QA/Risk processes, includes but not limited to RCA, FMEA, etc.
- Knowledge of CMS, TJC, CDPH (Title 22), OSHA, and other applicable healthcare regulations related to infection control

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:

Pay: $42.00 - $45.00 per hour
