Job Title: Equipment Manager / Fleet Manager
Summary
The Equipment Manager / Fleet Manager oversees the acquisition, maintenance, tracking, and lifecycle management of all company vehicles, heavy equipment, tools, and related assets. This role ensures equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, cost control, and operational readiness across all departments. The manager leads maintenance planning, supervises technicians or vendors, and implements systems to maximize uptime and minimize total cost of ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet & Equipment Oversight
- Manage the full lifecycle of vehicles, heavy equipment, and tools, including procurement, deployment, maintenance, and disposal.
- Maintain accurate inventory records, asset tags, and equipment assignments.
- Monitor equipment utilization and recommend adjustments to improve efficiency.
- Ensure all equipment meets safety, DOT, OSHA, and manufacturer standards.
Maintenance Management
- Develop and oversee preventive maintenance schedules for all fleet and equipment.
- Coordinate repairs with in‑house technicians or external service providers.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and make decisions on repair vs. replacement.
- Maintain maintenance logs, service records, and compliance documentation.
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Manage the equipment and fleet budget, including fuel, repairs, parts, and replacement planning.
- Negotiate pricing and service agreements with vendors and suppliers.
- Track operating costs and identify opportunities to reduce expenses.
Operational Support
- Ensure equipment is available and ready for field crews or project teams.
- Support jobsite mobilization and demobilization, including equipment delivery and pickup.
- Train employees on proper equipment use, care, and safety procedures.
Compliance & Safety
- Maintain DOT files, registrations, inspections, and licensing requirements.
- Oversee vehicle telematics, GPS tracking, and driver safety programs.
- Conduct periodic audits of equipment condition and operator compliance.
Leadership & Coordination
- Supervise mechanics, shop staff, or equipment coordinators (if applicable).
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and operations leadership to forecast equipment needs.
- Develop and enforce equipment policies and standard operating procedures.
Qualifications
- Experience in fleet management, equipment management, maintenance supervision, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of heavy equipment, vehicles, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations, OSHA standards, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Proficiency with fleet management software, telematics, and inventory systems.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to manage budgets, negotiate with vendors, and prioritize multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications (Optional)
- CDL or ability to obtain one. This would be a plus but not required.
- Technical or vocational training in mechanics or equipment maintenance.
- Experience in construction, oil & gas, utilities, transportation, or similar industries.
- Supervisory or team‑lead experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to inspect equipment in shop and field environments.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb, bend, or work outdoors as needed.
- Comfortable working around heavy machinery and active jobsites.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
