Position Summary
The Laboratory Technician supports the daily testing operations of the laboratory by performing a wide range of mechanical, chemical, and physical tests in accordance with ASTM standards, Prime Aerospace specifications, and internal Nadcap-compliant procedures. This role is responsible for ensuring accuracy, traceability, repeatability, and efficiency in all test activities.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and eager to learn. They will work within a regulated, customer-focused environment where quality, safety, and professionalism are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Testing & Technical Duties
- Perform assigned laboratory tests including, but not limited to:
- Tensile, Yield, and Elongation testing
- Hardness testing (Rockwell, Microhardness, or as applicable)
- Conductivity and Resistivity testing
- Coating thickness and plating evaluations
- Taber abrader and wear/abrasion tests
- Corrosion and salt spray exposure
- Metallographic sample preparation (sectioning, mounting, polishing, etching)
- Additional mechanical or analytical tests as assigned
- Execute tests strictly in accordance with:
- ASTM methods
- Prime aerospace and defense specifications (e.g., Boeing, Lockheed, Raytheon, Safran, etc.)
- Internal work instructions and standard operating procedures
- Maintain full traceability of all samples, data, and equipment used.
- Document results clearly and accurately in laboratory worksheets, digital logs, and customer reports.
- Assist with sample receiving, labeling, preparation, and routing through the testing workflow.
Quality & Compliance
- Follow all Nadcap requirements for documentation, calibration, traceability, and record retention.
- Ensure test equipment is properly calibrated and maintained; immediately report any abnormalities.
- Participate in internal audits, corrective actions, and continual improvement activities when assigned.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment at all times.
Data, Reporting & Efficiency
- Enter test results into the laboratory information system (LIMS) or customer required formats.
- Communicate any nonconforming findings, measurement issues, or unusual specimen conditions.
- Support efficient workflow by balancing sample load, prioritizing urgent orders, and minimizing bottlenecks.
- Contribute to improved turnaround times while maintaining strict compliance and accuracy.
Safety & Work Environment
- Follow all laboratory safety protocols including PPE, chemical handling, and equipment operation.
- Properly handle sharp tools, chemicals, high-temperature equipment, and mechanical testers.
- Report safety concerns or hazards promptly.
