Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility using proper techniques and equipment like Hoyer lifts and transfer methods.
- Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates; document findings accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Support medical procedures by preparing patients, maintaining aseptic techniques, and assisting with medication administration under supervision.
- Provide specialized care for individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, ensuring their safety and comfort through memory care strategies.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care in settings like ICU, emergency medicine, or hospice environments; communicate effectively with caregivers and medical staff.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations; handle medical records and documentation meticulously.
- Use EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks to update patient information promptly and accurately.
- Practice safe manual handling and heavy lifting techniques to prevent injury during patient transfers or mobility assistance.
- Engage in ongoing training related to infection control, CPR certification, aseptic technique, and other certifications necessary for high-quality patient service.
Experience
- Prior experience working as a CNA or in a healthcare setting such as long-term care facilities, hospitals, outpatient clinics, or home care is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic life support (BLS).
- Experience with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Meditech enhances your ability to document and coordinate patient care efficiently.
- Background in caring for diverse populations including pediatric patients, geriatric individuals, or those with developmental disabilities is advantageous.
- Critical care experience in environments such as ICU or Level I Trauma Centers is a plus; familiarity with infection control practices is essential.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages and backgrounds while maintaining professionalism and compassion.
