Indiana AMVETS Service Foundation provides U.S. Military Veterans, their families, and their survivors world-class counsel, representation, and assistance at no charge to Veterans or their families.
Role Description:
This is a part-time (32 hours/wk), hybrid role, for a Department Service Officer at the Department of Indiana AMVETS Service Foundation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Interview veterans and their dependents to assess benefit eligibility
• Advocate for veterans, retirees, spouses, and dependents
• Gather supporting documentation for claims
• Process claims with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
• Counsel veterans on federal and state benefit programs
• Assist with benefit applications (disability, pension, education, housing, burial, etc.)
• Represent AMVETS in community outreach and presentations
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must be a veteran with an honorable discharge
• Must meet one or more of the following service conditions:
- Served at least 6 months total, or;
- Medically discharged or retired from military service, or;
- Served overseas in a combat zone, or;
- Served in an active duty, reserve, or National Guard capacity
Recommended Qualifications:
- Strong Communication and Customer Service skills
- Understanding of Finance and financial record management
- Ability to provide Training for veterans' benefits and services
- Experience in Sales support and activities
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Empathy and commitment to serving veterans and their families
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience preferred
Position Location: Indianapolis, IN at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center.
Position Salary: $20-$22/hr
