Position Summary
The Application Engineer is responsible for the administration, support, and optimization of assigned core and secondary firm applications to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient service delivery. Acting as the subject matter expert for designated applications, this role manages lifecycle activities including upgrades, patching, and compliance, while maintaining documentation and coordinating user-impacting changes in partnership with IT and Training teams. The Application Engineer also leads application-related projects, oversees vendor relationships, and participates in the intake of new solutions. This hybrid position requires occasional travel and participation in after-hours support rotations.
Key Responsibilities
Application Management & Support
- Serve as the subject matter expert for assigned core and secondary firm applications.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation.
- Communicate user-impacting changes and coordinate training with IT training resources
- Plan and execute upgrade schedules, including firm-wide communications and change management reviews.
- Perform or oversee regular maintenance, security patching, and version upgrades to ensure compliance with vendor requirements.
- Manage support requests through the incident management system, ensuring timely resolution and detailed documentation.
Project Leadership & Intake
- Lead application upgrade projects and assist with implementation of new solutions using the IT Project Framework.
- Participate in the new application intake process, including evaluation and integration planning.
- Collaborate with IT teams on priority issues, outages, and escalated requests.
Vendor & Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure effective support and issue resolution.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to align application functionality with business needs.
Additional Duties
- Participate in after-hours on-call rotation for escalated support.
- Occasional travel to firm offices for project or support-related tasks.
Education and Experience
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 3–5 years of experience supporting and managing enterprise applications in a professional IT environment; law firm experience preferred.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows (server and desktop) and Microsoft 365 Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Familiarity with application lifecycle management, including upgrades, patching, and vendor compliance.
- Exposure to change management and release management practices.
- Experience with cloud-based applications and integrations highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of enterprise application architecture and lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes and incident management systems.
- Knowledge of security patching, version upgrades, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to review and write basic SQL queries for troubleshooting and reporting. Skills

- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs for equipment setup when necessary
