Job Summary
The Assistant Division Engineer (ADE) - B&B Structures is the front-line leader of the Boston & Providence sub-Divisions in all matters related to Safety, Quality, and Productivity. This position is responsible for overseeing an agreement and non-agreement workforce in the inspection, maintenance, and construction of all B&B Structures infrastructure to ensure safe work practices are employed, work plans are executed efficiently and effectively, and that the infrastructure is maintained in safe and dependable condition.

Job Summary
The Assistant Division Engineer (ADE) - B&B Structures is the front-line leader of the Boston & Providence sub-Divisions in all matters related to Safety, Quality, and Productivity. This position is responsible for overseeing an agreement and non-agreement workforce in the inspection, maintenance, and construction of all B&B Structures infrastructure to ensure safe work practices are employed, work plans are executed efficiently and effectively, and that the infrastructure is maintained in safe and dependable condition.
Essential Functions
- Drive continuous improvement in safety performance through direct oversight of field activities, administration of effective efficiency testing, and taking a leadership role in the development of work plans.
- Conduct B&B Structures inspections for assigned craftson-time and in compliance with Amtrak and Regulatory requirements and standard.
- Provide technical expertise to ensure all work is performed in accordance with relevant standard, specifications, and guidelines.
- Plan and monitor the daily/weekly work plans to ensure proper prioritization of work, efficient utilization of limited resources (track usage, force account, equipment, etc.) to ensure all aspects of the infrastructure meet or exceed current Amtrak standards and comply with all relevant regulatory requirements and standards.
- Oversee all administrative activities of the sub-Division including, but not limited to, payroll and time-entry management, workforce scheduling, operating and capital budgeting, safety management, inspection scheduling and compliance, etc.
- In coordination with Division Leadership, develop annual operating and capital investment plans that target critical priorities and drive improvement in the safety and reliability of the Sub-Division infrastructure.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience
- 7 years of prior relevant experience required
- Qualified, or capable of qualifying, in MW-1000, NORAC, RWP, AMT-2, and applicable FRA Rules and Regulations
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant major. (i.e. Engineering) or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience
- 9 years of prior relevant experience preferred
- 4 years of relevant leadership experience
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite of tools (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of railroad operations and maintenance/construction processes and procedures
- Familiarity with Maximo (or similar work and asset management software) and timekeeping solutions employed in a unionized environment
- Ability to lead and oversee the inspection, testing, maintenance, and construction of B&B Structures assets in accordance with FRA and/or railroad regulations and policies.
- Ability to read, understand, and manage to an operating and capital budget
- Experience in Project Management, Program Management, Work and Asset Management
- Demonstrated experience as a safety leader in a railroad, transit, or other safety-critical environment.
