Title: Medical Records Coder ILocation: Colton, CAPay Range: $25-30.71/Hr based on experience20-40 hrs/wk from the candidate, depending on the candidate's availability Hours: 20/40 depending on part time or full time availability Summary:Under general direction, Health Information Coders I abstract and code outpatient charts in hospital and clinic settings, using International Coding of Diseases (ICD-10-CM), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Level II coding classifications. Duties include reviewing charts (in paper or electronic format) and identifying procedures; abstracting and coding (or providing guidance on) patient charts, utilizing ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding classifications; evaluating charts for completeness and accuracy in conformance with current-relevant standards and regulations; and contacting clinic/hospital staff to complete charts, make corrections, and/or clarify information for coding purposes.Responsibility: abstract and code patient charts such as for outpatient, emergency room care or institutional medical records; Review charts and identify proper procedures; utilize International Coding of Diseases (IDC) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding classifications to abstract and code patient charts; evaluate charts for completeness and accuracy in accordance with current standards and regulations; coordinate with hospital staff to complete charts and clarify information for coding purposes; assist with special studies as requested. Minimum RequirementsApplicants must meet both of the following, credentials -and- experience requirements: Credentials: Possess and maintain one of the following:• RHIA: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA),• RHIT: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA),• CCS: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), -or-• CPC: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) issued by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).--AND--Experience: One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience within the past five (5) years, coding outpatient and inpatient stays/visits at an acute care hospital, at an ambulatory care clinic, or medical office settings utilizing ICD-9-CM or ICD-10-CM (International Coding of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) coding classifications.
