DESIGN ENGINEER - AEROSPACE

Position summary:Researches and develops projects associated with the design and development of new products, models, or mechanisms.  Investigates and resolves technical problems involving product performance.Essential Functions:Designs complex aircraft hardware to fulfill requirements from the preliminary stage through preparation of sales drawings, details, and parts lists.Completes designs for multiple projects from conception through quality testing and production.COordinates development and design problems with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Engineer.Determines and establishes specifications and standards.Discusses and consults with sales staff or customer on product requirements and specifications where design or manufacturing problems are involved.Performs all other duties as assigned.Role QualificationsSkills, Abilities, and Other Requirements:BSME Degree or ten years of applicable experience.  Reasonable knowledge of mechanical components, such as gears, bearings, actuators, controls, etc.  Reasonable knowledge of material and manufacturing processes, and mechanics and stress analysis.  Reasonable knowledge of military and commercial specifications and drafting standards.Proficiency with SolidWorks, Microsoft Word and Excel.  Ability to interface well with customers and co-workers.  Good communication skills.Mathematics and mechanical aptitude.Education and Experience:Minimum of two years design experience in mechanical aircraft components and hardware.Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentPhysical demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, reach with arms and hands, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs.Work environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time and an air-conditioned and heated office.  The noise level is moderate.  The factory floor is in the same building as the office.  Some exposure to noise and fumes in factory.  Occasional travel to customers or suppliers.  Heavy computer work.DisclaimerThe above information on this description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performance by employees within this classification.
