Position Overview:
The Amsterdam Housing Authority is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Tenant Relations Assistant to support our housing programs, including Public Housing, Section 8, and other subsidized housing initiatives. This role plays a vital part in ensuring applicants and tenants meet eligibility requirements, supporting ongoing certification processes, resolving tenant concerns, and maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
With a caseload of approximately 200 clients, the ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, communicating effectively, and managing a variety of administrative and client-facing responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct interviews and application reviews to determine eligibility for housing programs
- Process initial and ongoing tenant certifications and re-certifications
- Investigate applications and collect relevant documentation
- Maintain accurate case files and enter data into HUD systems (PIC and TRACS)
- Respond to tenant complaints, lease violations, and inquiries
- Conduct home visits and unit inspections as needed
- Prepare legal notices and eviction paperwork, including court petitions
- Monitor occupancy and program compliance with HUD regulations
- Support the Family Self-Sufficiency and Community Service Programs
- Advise residents on available community and social services
- Collect rent, issue work orders, and calculate rental payments
- Prepare reports for supervisors and leadership as required
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate Degree in Human Services or a related field
OR - High school diploma (or GED) and two (2) years of full-time paid experience working with the general public
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Additional Requirements:
- Valid New York State Driver’s License at time of appointment
- Legal residency in Montgomery County
