What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Operator position at Amsted Rail Company?
We are currently seeking a 2nd Shift CNC Operator to join our manufacturing team. This position plays a key role in producing precision-machined components while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate one or two NC/CNC machines.
- Change machine tooling as required.
- Inspect parts to specified tolerances and engineering drawing requirements using approved inspection methods.
- Ensure finished parts meet quality standards and visual requirements.
- Perform routine machine and equipment maintenance.
- Enter labor and production reporting accurately each day.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
- Perform minor assembly functions as needed.
- Meet established production and efficiency standards.
- Report equipment malfunctions, tooling issues, and material concerns promptly.
- Properly identify and document defects or non-conforming parts.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work instructions.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Basic math, reading, and comprehension skills.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions and quality requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for approximately 10 hours per shift.
- Ability to lift up to 85 pounds, approximately 5–10 times per hour.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive movements throughout the shift.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures while wearing all required PPE.
