Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Tool Maker / Die Maintenance technician to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and setup of precision tooling and dies used in Fine Blanking processes. Your expertise will ensure the continuous operation of high-quality production equipment, optimize tool performance, and uphold safety standards. Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of tooling, including Fine Blanking dies and CNC machining tools.
- Set up and operate manual and CNC machining equipment such as milling machines, lathes and grinders
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings using GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards to ensure precise fabrication.
- Conduct precision measurements with calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other measurement instruments to verify tool dimensions and quality control standards.
- Fabricate new tools or modify existing ones through welding, manual machining, grinding, or assembly processes to meet production specifications.
- Maintain detailed documentation of tool history, repairs, modifications, and preventive maintenance schedules to support efficient shop operations.
Requirements
- Proven experience (5-7 years) in toolmaking or die maintenance within a manufacturing environment; shop math skills are essential.
- Hands-on experience with metal machining processes including milling, turning (lathe work), grinding, and welding.
- Ability to interpret mechanical blueprints and schematics accurately while adhering to GD&T standards.
- Familiarity with Fine Blanking press operations is highly desirable.
- Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments like micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges for quality control purposes.
- Mechanical aptitude combined with a solid understanding of shop safety practices; experience with maintenance repair operations (MRO) is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex tooling issues efficiently.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with engineering teams and documenting work accurately.
- Have your own tools.
- Able to work overtime as needed.
