Without the strength of our Machine Shop team, we would not be able to offer the industry-leading service we’re known for. We’re seeking an experienced Deburr Technician. The ideal candidate will have proven industry experience as a Deburr Technician.
As a strong communicator and skilled hands-on Deburr Technician you will review shop travelers to determine work instructions. Remove sharp edges, blend transition surfaces by utilizing hand blending tools, files and / or sandpaper. The Deburr Technician must be able to explain the respective role within the QMS and how their role contributes to quality (Ref. Quality Procedures). The Deburr Technician shall contribute to product conformity as apart to their daily job function and shall contribute to product safety (Ref. job travelers and the Injury and Illness Prevention Program Handbook). The Deburr Technician hand shall also be aware of ethical behavior and conduct themselves accordingly to Karman’s policies and procedures (Ref. Employee Handbook).

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Burr Hand plays a critical role in the aerospace manufacturing process by ensuring that all machined components are free from burrs, sharp edges, and surface imperfections. This position is responsible for precision deburring, cleaning, and finishing of aerospace parts to meet exacting industry and customer specifications.
- Remove burrs, sharp edges, and excess material from precision aerospace components using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and abrasive materials.
- Inspect machined parts to ensure surfaces and edges meet aerospace quality and safety standards.
- Perform manual and mechanical polishing, chamfering, and surface conditioning.
- Follow detailed work instructions, blueprints, and engineering drawings to achieve required part finishes.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Read shop travelers to determine work instructions.
- Use the tools necessary to perform tasks safely and efficiently.
- Handle and clean parts carefully to prevent damage to critical surfaces or tolerances.
- Must understand how customers’ products are impacted in the event of failure.
- Collaborate with machinists, quality inspectors, and engineers to resolve finishing or surface quality issues.
- Maintain accurate production records and follow all quality control procedures.
- Keep work area organized and follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements.
- Ensure compliance with AS9100 and customer-specific aerospace standards.
- Maintain and Realize AS 9100 procedures and continuous improvement efforts.

- Perform other duties as assigned by the Machine Shop Supervisor or Lead.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be detail oriented, extremely organized; possess excellent communication skills and be able to interact well with Customers and Staff.
- Must have excellent peopled skills.
- Must have direct communication with internal customers.
- Must be able to receive formal training of changes & customer requirements.
- Must know the QMS basic system of reporting, record keeping and follow instructions.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduate or equivalent work experience.
- Some experience preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Constant standing/walking/sitting for at least 8 hours.
- Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting, or carrying up to 50 lbs, minimum 35 lbs.
- Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
- Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less. Corrective lenses may be worn to fulfill requirements.
- Prolonged periods of repetitive movement are required.
- Constant holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with the hand(s).
- Occasional extending of arms to reach overhead, at shoulder level and below shoulder level.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This position operates in a warehouse/shop/manufacturing environment.
- Industrial manufacturing or machine shop setting.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and metal particles (PPE provided).
- Requires attention to detail and adherence to safety procedures at all times.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- No travel is required for this position.
