What are the responsibilities and job description for the IN PROCESS QUALITY TECHNICIAN - NIGHTS position at AMPI?
AMPI owns seven Midwest-based manufacturing plants where 10 percent of the nation's American-type cheese, processed cheese and butter is produced. The cooperative's award-winning cheese, butter and powdered dairy products are marketed to foodservice, retail and food ingredient customers. In 2019, the co-op launched its Dinner Bell Creamery brand and accompanying Co-op Crafted promise, highlighting more than 50 years of dairy farm families partnering with skilled buttermakers and cheesemakers.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITES:
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time:
- All AMPI employees have an obligation to report employee safety, food safety and food quality issues to personnel of authority.
- This position has a heightened food safety and food quality responsibilities
- Perform routine in-process testing during cheese production runs to monitor product quality.
- Accurately record data from lab tests and communicate results to production staff and supervisors.
- Analyze test results and collaborate with the production team to make real time process adjustments to reduce undergrades and improve product consistency.
- Use and maintain various lab equipment (e.g., pH meters, moisture analyzers, fat testers) to test product characteristics.
- Ensure all testing, procedures and documentation comply with SQF (Safe Quality Food) standards and company quality systems.
- Communicate findings clearly and effectively with production, quality, and management teams.
- Identify trends or issues in product quality and escalate as necessary.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and food-safe laboratory and work area.
- Participate in internal audits, training, and continuous improvement activities.
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
