The Plant Cost Accountant plays a critical role in driving the financial performance and operational efficiency of our manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of plant costing, including the development and maintenance of cost accounting systems, detailed analysis of production costs, and proactive identification of opportunities for cost optimization.
By providing accurate, timely, and actionable financial insights, the Plant Cost Accountant supports strategic decision-making and ensures that our cost management practices align with both industry standards and the company’s financial objectives.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in cost accounting methodologies, advanced analytical skills, and a collaborative approach to partnering with operations, supply chain, and finance teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain plant cost accounting systems and models.
- Analyze production costs, including direct materials, labor, and overhead.
- Prepare and review standard cost calculations and updates.
- Conduct weekly variance analysis (actual vs. standard costs) and report findings to management.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes with detailed cost data and analysis.
- Monitor and report on cost trends, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Collaborate with operations, supply chain, and finance teams to ensure accurate cost allocation and reporting.
- Conduct inventory valuation and reconciliation, including cycle counts and physical audits.
- Monitor and Manage stock levels, review costs, cycle counts, and drive efficiency and savings.
- Provide cost estimates for new products, processes, or capital investments in relation with purchasing.
- Support internal and external audits related to costing and inventory.
- Assist in month-end closing, prepare journal entries as necessary, analyze inventory evaluation, inventory roll forward
- Coordinate with IT department for system issues, maintenance and development
- Prepare detailed account analysis and reconcile sales, cost and inventory, liability accounts
- Support and assist internal department reporting requirements such as audit schedules, tax schedules and others
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- Minimum 3 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or plant environment.
- Expertise in standard costing, activity-based costing, and variance analysis.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (Epicor) and Excel.
- High attention to detail and accuracy
· Experience with inventory management and reconciliation.
· Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate complex cost concepts to non-financial stakeholders.

- Job Title: Plant Cost Accountant
- Work Environment: Office setting within the plant. Some travel may be required for plant visits or corporate meetings.
- Reporting Structure: Reports to the BU Controller & Plant Manager in Controller’s absence
- Salary: Salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
- Pay Range: $75,000 - $95,000
