Job Description Summary:
The Cable Assembly Technician is responsible for manufacturing high-quality cable assemblies and electrical harnesses in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, quality standards, and customer requirements. This position performs cable preparation, connector assembly, electrical testing, inspection, labeling, and packaging while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and productivity objectives.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and capable of using a variety of manual tools, power tools, and electrical test equipment to produce reliable products used in demanding industrial applications.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to read and follow detailed written work instructions and assembly drawings.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and good hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to use measuring devices including tape measures, rulers, and gauges.
- Basic understanding of electrical assemblies and wiring practices preferred.
- Ability to identify colors and conductor markings accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

- Basic computer skills for entering production or testing information.
Qualifications – Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous manufacturing or assembly experience preferred.
Duties/Responsibilities: (Position Specific)
−Read and interpret work orders, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and manufacturing work instructions prior to beginning production.
- Verify part numbers, components, materials, revisions, and traceability requirements before assembly.
- Measure and cut cables to specified lengths using manual and automatic cable cutting equipment.
- Strip cable jackets and conductors using manual and semi-automatic stripping equipment while maintaining dimensional requirements and preventing conductor damage.
- Prepare cables by removing fillers, applying heat shrink tubing, and performing other preparation steps according to work instructions.
- Assemble industrial electrical connectors, cable glands, clamps, housings, grommets, and related hardware according to engineering specifications.
- Route and identify conductors according to wiring diagrams and assembly drawings.
- Install terminals and electrical contacts using the required assembly methods and torque specifications.
- Use calibrated torque tools to tighten fasteners to specified values.
- Perform visual inspections throughout the assembly process to verify workmanship and compliance with quality standards.
- Perform electrical testing including continuity, insulation resistance (IR), dielectric withstand (Hi-Pot), and other required production tests using approved test equipment and fixtures.
- Record test results and production information as required by manufacturing documentation and quality procedures.
- Identify and segregate nonconforming materials or products and report quality issues to the appropriate personnel.
Print and apply product identification labels, heat shrink labels, and serial number labels according to customer specifications.
- Package finished products in accordance with packaging instructions to prevent shipping damage.
- Maintain accurate production records, travelers, and traceability documentation.
- Maintain work area cleanliness and organization using 5S principles.
- Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, productivity, and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to assemble small and medium-sized components.
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds regularly.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and repetitive hand movements.
- Good manual dexterity and visual acuity for detailed assembly work.
- Ability to distinguish wire colors and identify small markings.
- Ability to safely operate production equipment and power tools.
