We are currently seeking a well-qualified candidate for the position of Plant Engineer - Level II, based in Endicott, NY.  The Plant Engineer will manage and execute capital projects and facility improvements that support production needs. The Plant Engineer will serve as the project lead for facility-related initiatives, coordinate with internal stakeholders, facilities and maintenance teams, manufacturing engineering, and external vendors and contractors, and ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. This role requires an engineer with strong project management expertise, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems knowledge, and the ability to manage vendor relationships, coordinate utility requirements, and oversee project execution to enhance production capability and facility performance.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Capital Project Development & Planning: Identify and assess capital project opportunities to support production needs. Develop project scope, requirements, and specifications. Prepare project budgets and timelines. Evaluate project feasibility and return on investment. Present recommendations to management for project approval.
  • Project Management & Execution: Manage capital projects from conception through completion. Develop detailed project plans and schedules. Coordinate project activities and manage resources. Track project progress against budget and schedule. Manage scope changes and document project decisions. Conduct project closeout and document lessons learned.
  • Vendor & Contractor Coordination: Serve as primary project manager and internal contact for external vendors and contractors in coordination with facilities and maintenance teams. Develop project specifications and solicit competitive bids. Evaluate vendor capabilities and qualifications. Manage vendor performance and quality of deliverables. Coordinate vendor activities and resolve issues. Work with facilities and maintenance on ongoing support requirements post-project.
  • Design & Engineering Support: Collaborate with design engineering and manufacturing engineering teams on project requirements and specifications. Coordinate with vendors and contractors on technical designs and solutions. Review and approve engineering designs and drawings. Ensure designs meet production requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and compliance standards.
  • Utility Services & Capacity Planning: Assess facility utility requirements based on production demand and equipment needs. Coordinate with utility services to ensure adequate electrical, water, compressed air, and other utility capacity. Plan utility infrastructure upgrades to support production growth and new equipment. Monitor utility consumption and identify efficiency improvement opportunities. Work with manufacturing engineering teams to understand future production demands and utility needs.
  • Budget & Cost Control: Develop and manage project budgets. Track project costs against budget. Manage change orders and scope changes. Identify cost savings opportunities. Report on project spending and financial performance. Conduct project financial closeout.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all project work complies with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations. Coordinate safety requirements with contractors. Maintain required documentation and certifications. Recommend safety improvements and enhancements.
  • Documentation & Closeout: Maintain comprehensive project documentation including plans, specifications, drawings, and contracts. Collect as-built documentation and equipment information. Develop operation and maintenance manuals. Archive project records for future reference.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate project status, progress, and issues to management, production, and manufacturing engineering teams. Provide regular project updates and budget reports. Address stakeholder concerns and manage expectations. Support production transition and equipment startup.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work effectively with production, design, manufacturing engineering, and management teams to understand facility improvement needs. Coordinate with facilities and maintenance on project execution and ongoing support. Maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and external vendors.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in plant engineering, facilities engineering, or capital project management
  • Experience managing capital projects from conception through completion
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations for industrial facilities
  • Experience with utility systems and capacity planning
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and production environments preferred
  • Experience with CAD tools preferred

 

SKILLS

  • Strong project management experience with capital projects and facility improvements, including planning, scheduling, and budget control
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, utility services, and industrial facility infrastructure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical information and project status to management and stakeholders
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and project management tools; ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and work collaboratively across Production, Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Facilities, and external vendor teams
  • Results-driven mindset focused on on-time delivery, budget control, production capability enhancement, and utility efficiency

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS (with or without reasonable accommodations):
