Scratch & Co. – Assistant Manager Job Description
Summary:
The Assistant Manager supports the General Manager in delivering exceptional Guest experiences while helping lead daily restaurant operations. This role focuses on execution, team leadership, and operational excellence while upholding the standards and culture of Scratch & Co.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the General Manager in daily restaurant operations including opening, closing, and shift leadership.
- Lead FOH and BOH operations during assigned shifts, ensuring service, food quality, and cleanliness standards are met.
- Assist with training, coaching, and motivating Team Members to deliver consistent Guest experiences.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health department standards at all times.
- Monitor food preparation, portioning, garnishing, and presentation to ensure food meets Scratch & Co. specifications.
- Address Guest concerns promptly and professionally, escalating issues to the General Manager when necessary.
- Assist with scheduling, shift coverage, and labor awareness under the direction of the General Manager.
- Enforce company policies, including cash handling, appearance standards, and safety procedures.
- Help maintain proper inventory levels and assist with ordering, receiving, and organization of product.
- Communicate Team Member performance concerns, attendance issues, and operational challenges to the General Manager.
- Lead pre-shift meetings, reinforcing daily priorities, promotions, and standards.
- Support onboarding and orientation of new Team Members.
- Assist with basic administrative duties, including logs, checklists, and shift reports.
- Identify maintenance or equipment issues and communicate needs to leadership.
- Serve as Manager-on-Duty when scheduled, ensuring smooth operations and strong leadership presence. Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager or Operations Leadership.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong Guest service and communication skills
- Ability to lead and coach Team Members during fast-paced shifts
- Working knowledge of food, beverage, and service standards
- Basic understanding of labor control and waste reduction
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Ability to follow systems and procedures consistently
- Professional demeanor with Guests and Team Members
- Time management and organizational skills Comfort using POS systems and standard computer programs
Education & Experience:
- Minimum of 2–4 years restaurant experience
- Previous shift lead or supervisory experience preferred
- Full-service restaurant experience strongly preferred Must be 21 years of age or older
Performance Standards:
Assistant Managers are expected to:
- Uphold all Scratch & Co. service, food quality, and cleanliness standards
- Follow all food safety and alcohol service guidelines (ServSafe)
- Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude
- Lead by example during peak service periods
- Complete all required training and certifications
- Maintain prompt and reliable attendance
- Support operational goals through efficiency, organization, and accountability Able to coach and correct Team Members who do not meet expectations.
Working Conditions:
- Standing and walking for extended periods (up to 10 hours per shift)
- Frequent interaction with Guests and Team Members
- Ability to operate POS systems and handle cash
- Ability to bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs Nights, weekends, and holidays are required as scheduled
Training Requirements:
- Completion of food safety and alcohol certification (ServSafe or state-required) within 60 days
- Successful completion of the Scratch & Co. Assistant Manager Training Program
